ympd - Control MPD player from a Docker Image

After setting up a Streaming radio instance of MPD/Icecast2 running in a Docker image I was looking for a nice front end to control it.

I found ympd a MPD web GUI written in C, so created a Docker image to run it, https://hub.docker.com/r/alastairhm/docker-icecast/ it uses Alpine Linux so the image is only 6mb is size.

You run it linking to your Docker image which is running MPD.

docker run --name my-ympd -d -p 8080:8080 --link your_mpd_container:mpdhost alastair/docker-ympd

Then browse to http://localhost:8080/

Docker Doku Wiki

Created a small footprint (less than 50mb) Docker image running the Doku Wiki on Lighttpd under Alpine Linux.

Running

docker run --name "my-wiki" -d -p 80:80 alastairhm/alpine-doku

Lighttpd and PHP running on Docker Example

Here is a low resource Lighttpd with PHP Docker image running on Alpine Linux, only ~37MB image.

Docker Hub = https://hub.docker.com/r/alastairhm/alpine-lighttpd-php/

Create an example PHP file in your local directory

echo "<?php phpinfo(); ?>" >> index.php

Then start the Docker image;

docker run --name "my-lighttpd-php" -p 8000:80 -v $(pwd):/var/www alastairhm/alpine-lighttpd-php

Browse to http://localhost:8000/

Docker OwnCloud Update

I've updated the owncloud Docker compose file to include a Nginx automatic reverse proxy and added some scripts to handle backing up and restoring the database.

Docker Compose Tutorial

This sets up a instance of Ghost micro blogging platform running in a Docker image connected to a MySQL Docker images.

There are also a couple of scripts to backup and restore the MySQL database.

Setup the database connection

Enter details as follows (as setup in the compose file);

Choose MySQL/MariaDB
Database user : owncloud
Database password : password
Database name : owncloud
Host : mysql

Local Volume

Create a local directory for your ownCloud files /var/www/owncloud

Running

Clone the repo then run the following in the directory

docker-compose -d up

Testing Docker Puppet Module

This module https://github.com/garethr/garethr-docker lets you install and control Docker using Puppet.

For example this Vagrant setup spins up an Ubuntu VM and then using the Docker module spins up a Jenkins build server Docker container with a few simple commands;

include docker
docker::image { 'jenkins': }
docker::run { ‘some-jenkins’:
image => ‘jenkins’,
ports => ‘8080:8080’,
volumes => ‘/vagrant/jenkins’,
use_name => true,
}
